
Why we’re ditching old bathroom lamps for high-IP infrared heaters
Let’s be honest: those old-school bathroom heat lamps are kind of a joke. Most of them are just basic halogen bulbs with almost zero protection. In a steamy bathroom, that’s a recipe for disaster. Water vapor just sneaks into the housing, and before you know it, you’ve got a short circuit or a dead bulb. It’s frustrating. That’s why we’re seeing everyone move toward high-standard waterproof infrared heaters. They actually stop the moisture from getting in where it doesn’t belong.
What’s the deal with IP ratings?
You’ll see “IP44” or higher thrown around a lot. In plain English? It just means the thing is sealed tight. We use silicone gaskets and reinforced seals to keep the steam away from the electrical guts. If you put a cheap, non-rated heater right in the shower zone, the humidity will basically eat your contacts alive in a few months. A proper IP-rated unit keeps that corrosion from happening. It just lasts longer.
Infrared vs. the old way
Most heaters try to warm up the air. But here’s the thing: bathroom air is slippery. It escapes through the vents or under the door the second it gets warm. Infrared is different. It sends out waves that heat your skin and the surfaces around you directly. You don’t have to stand around waiting for the whole room to warm up. You feel itinstantly.
A few things to keep in mind
These units pack a punch, but you can’t just slap them anywhere. Placement matters. You need to leave enough breathing room between the heater and the ceiling. If it’s too close, the heat builds up, which can mess with your ceiling materials or trip the thermal safety switch. And while we build these to be tough, they aren’t magic. If you put a high-wattage unit in a tiny closet-sized bathroom, it’s going to get way too hot in there. It’s all about finding that sweet spot between the wattage and the actual size of your room.
