
Making Bathroom Heaters That Don’t Blind You
Most bathroom infrared lamps are great at one thing: getting you warm instantly. But they have a nasty habit of being blindingly bright. It’s that harsh, white glare that hits you the second you flip the switch. Now, when we’re designing these for homes with babies, that glare isn’t just annoying—it’s a real problem for sensitive little eyes. The goal is to keep the heat but kill the glare. The trick with the light Standard quartz lamps throw out a bit of everything. To fix the eye-strain issue, we use special coatings or doped quartz glass. Think of it as a filter that blocks out that aggressive blue light. We shift the focus toward mid-to-long wave infrared. You can’t “see” these waves the same way, but you can definitely feel them soaking into your skin. Here’s the catch: filtering the light means you lose a tiny bit of raw heat. To make up for that, we just pack the filament tighter. You get the warmth you need without the “staring into the sun” feeling. The guts of the machine We use high-purity quartz for the envelope. Why? Because it doesn’t crack when it goes from freezing to boiling in a split second—which happens every single morning in a cold bathroom. Inside, there’s a tightly wound tungsten filament that gets screaming hot. And since nobody wants a nightmare installation, we stick with standard R7s or snap-in connectors. You just pop them into your existing housing and you’re good to go. Getting the install right You can’t just throw these anywhere. Since we’ve tuned the light for safety, the height is everything. If you mount them too low, the heat becomes too intense and you risk actually burning your skin. Too high? The warmth just vanishes into the ceiling before it ever reaches you. Aim for about 2.2 to 2.5 meters. One last thing: check your wiring. These lamps pull a lot of power the moment they kick on. If you’re using cheap, thin wires, they’ll heat up, the insulation will degrade, and you’re asking for trouble. Go with the good stuff.
