
Making Ceiling Heat Safe for Your Eyes
Most industrial IR lamps are basically heat cannons. They blast out short-wave radiation that’s perfect for drying paint in a factory, but it’s way too aggressive for a bathroom. You can’t have that kind of intensity hanging over a bathtub where kids or adults are looking straight up at it. It’s just too much for the eyes. To fix this, we stop worrying about raw power and start focusing on the light spectrum. Getting rid of the glare Nobody wants a heater that feels like a spotlight in their face. We handle this by filtering out the visible light and those near-infrared peaks that cause that blinding glare. We use specific quartz coatings or doped filaments to push the heat into the medium-to-long wave range. It’s a clever little trick. The heat still sinks into your skin and warms you up, but the room doesn’t get flooded with that harsh, bright light. Sure, filtering the light means you lose a tiny bit of total heat, but that’s a trade-off I’ll take any day to make sure the unit is safe for a home. Keeping things cool (where it matters) We don’t want to fry the ceiling. That’s why we use a low-wattage, controlled-current design. We also tweaked the reflectors. Instead of focusing the heat into a tight, searing beam—which would create those annoying “hot spots” on your skin—we diffuse it. It feels more like a warm blanket and less like a laser. A few tips for installation Here’s the thing about putting these in a ceiling grid: the unit itself is small, but the heat buildup in the plenum can get nasty. You’ve got to make sure the housing can actually breathe. If the air in that ceiling cavity just sits there, the lamp won’t last. The base connectors take a real beating from the trapped heat, and they’ll burn out way faster than they should. And please, use high-temp wiring. You really don’t want to deal with melted insulation inside your walls.
