
Why we’re ditching old-school heat lamps for waterproof infrared
If you’ve looked at bathroom specs lately, you’ll notice something. The old, basic heat lamps are disappearing. In their place, we’re seeing a lot more high-IP rated infrared heaters. This isn’t just about making things look modern. It’s about how the gear actually survives in a room full of steam. The way you actually feel the heat Here’s the thing about traditional lamps: they try to heat the air. But in a bathroom, that’s a losing battle. The warm air just floats straight up to the ceiling, leaving you shivering in your towel. Infrared is different. It sends out radiation that hits your skin or the floor directly. You don’t have to wait for the whole room to warm up. You feel it the second you flip the switch. It’s instant. Dealing with the steam Most standard heaters eventually just give up because steam leaks into the housing. We build our units to hit IPX4 standards or higher, which is just a fancy way of saying they’re sealed tight against splashes and heavy condensation. If you use a lamp that isn’t rated for moisture, water settles on the quartz tube. Then, the moment the element hits top temperature, that water expands fast and cracks the glass. Boom. Gone. A proper seal stops that from ever happening. A few things to keep in mind for the install You can’t just plug these into a random bathroom outlet. They pull a lot of power, and if you don’t have a dedicated circuit, you’re probably going to trip your breaker. Definitely check your amperage before you start. Also, these things put out a lot of intense heat. That’s great for warming up fast, but you have to be careful with where they go. Make sure there’s a decent gap between the heater and your drywall so you don’t accidentally scorch your ceiling. Switching to these units saves space and, more importantly, they actually last. It’s just a more reliable way to stay warm.
