
Getting the Heat Right in Your Bathroom (Without the Blinding Light)
Ever stepped into a bathroom with one of those infrared heaters and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? Most of these heaters use short-wave infrared lamps to get you warm instantly. They work great, but the downside is that standard halogen tubes blast out a ton of visible light. It’s harsh. It causes glare. And for babies or toddlers whose eyes are still developing, that kind of brightness can actually be stressful. We figured out a better way to handle this by shifting the light spectrum. Keeping eyes safe To stop that blinding effect, we use special quartz coatings or filtered envelopes. Think of it as a shield. It blocks the high-energy blue light and those annoying bright peaks, but it lets the cozy infrared heat slide right through. You get the warmth, but none of the glare. Sure, the filter takes away a tiny bit of the raw intensity, but it’s a fair trade-off to make sure the light is safe for the whole family. What’s happening under the hood Inside, we use precision-wound tungsten filaments tucked into halogen-filled quartz tubes. We use the halogen cycle because it stops the glass from turning black over time, which means your heater won’t lose its punch as it gets older. And it’s fast. Really fast. The second you flip the switch, the filament hits its temperature in milliseconds. No waiting around in a cold bathroom. The setup and the safety stuff Since bathrooms are humid, we tuck the lamps into moisture-resistant housing so you don’t have to worry about short circuits. One quick tip: make sure the reflector is polished like a mirror. If it gets dull or pitted, the heat doesn’t bounce downward properly. You end up wasting power and feeling less warmth. Just remember that these high-wattage lamps get seriously hot. Give the unit some breathing room. If you cram it into a tight space without enough ventilation, the outer case can overheat, and you’ll end up tripping the thermal cutout. Give it some air, and it’ll run perfectly.
