
Stop Worrying About Your IR Lamps in Chemical Zones
If you’re running infrared heating lamps around chemical cleaning lines, you already know the deal. You’ve got flammable vapors floating around and corrosive agents that eat through almost everything. In that kind of environment, a standard open-wire connection isn’t just a risk—it’s a ticking time bomb. One tiny spark or a leaky seal, and you’re looking at a disaster. That’s why we use ceramic end cap encapsulation. It sounds technical, but it’s basically just a way to lock everything down.
Why we stick with ceramic
We use high-purity alumina ceramic for these caps. We don’t touch plastics or cheap composites because they just melt or degrade the second a harsh solvent hits them. The ceramic does the heavy lifting here, acting as a shield so the lamp’s current doesn’t jump over to the chassis. To make it airtight, we seal the gap between the quartz tube and the cap with heat-resistant epoxy or glass-to-metal seals. It creates a wall that gas simply can’t get through.
Killing the risk of sparks
Here’s the thing: the “end-of-lamp” area is almost always the first place to fail. Vapors love to seep into the housing and find those hot terminals. Our design keeps those terminals totally isolated. By sealing off the electrical contact points, we get rid of those external arcs. No arcs means no ignition. It’s that simple.
The honest trade-offs
I won’t tell you it’s a perfect, magic fix. There are a few things to keep in mind. First, this sealing makes the lamp a bit bulkier. If you’re trying to squeeze these into an old, tight bracket,check your clearances first. They might not fit if the space is too cramped. Also, while the ceramic is tough, the external seal can still take a beating if it’s drenched in concentrated acids for years. You’ve got to keep an eye on them. Toss a check of the seal integrity into your quarterly maintenance routine. Look for hairline cracks. Catch them early, and you’re golden.
